Lone Working Policy
Lone working Staff Guidelines:
1. Consult this lone working policy and risk assessments regularly to ensure you are working safely.
2. Check your devices and personal belongings before starting a job - ensure your phone is charged, that you are reachable and that you have provision to call in an emergency if necessary.
3. Be sure to check-in with supervisors during the day.
4. Keep a record of known violent/aggressive persons to be shared with other staff and supervisors.
5. Walk-away or leave a task if the risk is too great. Ensure you feedback any
difficulties to supervisors so future arrangements can be made.
6. Do not attempt a task that requires two people to be conducted safely, consult with supervisors where necessary.
7. Ensure vehicles are locked and that valuables are hidden away where possible.
8. Plan your exit from a location in the event of an incident.
9. Remember to deescalate and defuse confrontation with clients where possible.
10. Complete ‘tool box’ talks relating to policies and procedures with management prior to working alone.
11. Talk and liaise with your managers if you believe additional training would be helpful to your role.
12. Remember to report any concerns, incidents, near misses and incidents of verbal or physical abuse to your supervisor and follow the incident reporting system.
13. Ensure that your client’s know when you are arriving, what to expect from your visit and notify them in the event of a significant delay where possible.
14. When working at night or in low-light areas, have access to a torch and park any vehicles in well-lit areas
